Abicah Soul - Makossa

Abicah Soul - ASR-0029

Abicah Soul (apparently a one-man-show by DJ Stax) first came around with a self-titled EP on Wha? Roots at the time when the afro-latin sound was just becoming popular in house. The record nailed it with all the tracks on the EP. And it makes me glad to see that the Abicah Soul sound has made it to 2009 while many of his compatriots have lost their battle against you-know-what-I-mean.

His sound for me is reminiscent of Osunlade, also in the way that he’s able to fluently incorporate the techy/analogue sounds to his overwhelmingly percussive tracks. This one, “Makossa” (originally recorded by the legendary Manu Dibango, of course) is doing promotional rounds and the vinyl release is supposed to be due in May 2009. With the Culoe De Song release forthcoming on Innervisions, I’m wondering if we are seeing a little afro-house revival here…

Carl Craig to remix Etienne Jaumet

March 20th, 2009 | By marek in General | Comments Off

Via Versatile blog: Etienne Jaumet’s album “Night Music” will get a remix/re-interpretation by Carl Craig. It’s supposed to see release in September this year and will include 5 tracks, including a track of 22 minutes’ duration.

Both guys being regulars on this blog, this is definitely intriguing news. As for the 22 minute track, it sure sounds like a hangover from the “ReComposed” installment, a collaboration with Moritz von Oswald (of Maurizio fame) reworking the most famous works of 20th century classical composers Ravel and Mussorgsky.

“Get Fucked”?

Google that and you most probably will NOT find out that actually there’s a cool club night by that name happening in Tallinn. It will take place this Friday at Club Angel, and the main guest this time is Giles Smith of Secretsundaze fame. Also, P Julm (known as a Ruler Of The Deep) will do his best to keep up. Your humble hosts on this blog will provide for warm-up and cool-down.

It’s Alive!

The fact that we haven’t been posting much recently doesn’t mean that we are not listening to new music. I already previously mentioned an experiment with Tumblr, now we have attached a Delicious bookmark feed on the right of the page. It points (mostly) to Juno releases where you can do the easy job of listening after we have done the hard job of selecting.

God knows what’s next - Twitter? (Sigh…)

Here are some of our recent faves:

Sideshow – If Alone ft Paul St. Hilaire (Chateau Flight remix)

Gorge – Garuna

Lars Bartkhun – Goodbye Dancing Hello God (Arto Mwambe remix)
