Ame - Fiori

Ostgut Ton - OSTGUTTON 10

Writing about „Fiori” (meaning “flowers” in Italian) seems kind of inevitable, considering that Ame have went over the top again with this record. This is not an easy challenge, when you have already come out with something as huge as “Rej”, created something referred to as “ame-house”, recently added more hits such as the remix of DJ Gregory’s “Elle” and their own “Balandine” EP (“Enoi”, oh my gosh!). Also, most probably I will very soon be writing about the sick remix for Etienne Jaumet, which is a 3/4 meter madness alike “Fiori”.

What’s already been said about this track? That it’s a piece created together with and for the Berlin Staatsballet. That it’s got references to Philip Glass and Jean-Michel Jarre. That it’s an epic minimal cosmic larger-than-life disco marathon. What do I even have to add to that? Maybe it’s a silly parallel, but I don’t recall a 15+ minutes hit like this since Blaze remixing Mondo Grosso’s “Star Suite”. Me being a sucker for slow build-ups, “Fiori” is like the slow build-up heaven. I personally intend to play the full version of the track in the club (although there’s actually a club-friendly edit included on the 12”) just to see people waiting for the beat for 7 minutes. So what? It’s not every day you get to dance to ballet music.

Scott Grooves - Only 500

Natural Midi - NM 002

Isn’t that the most f***ing straightforward title? “Only 500”. Seriously. It’s like having a t-shirt with “This shirt cost 120 EUR” written on it.

Anyway, it might just be the interpretation of the stores that carry the record (that sort of thing has happened before), and it’s not that important anyway, considering that the real novelty factor here is the fact that Scott Grooves has made a decent record over a very long time. I was actually quite surprised to hear something like this coming from him. It’s deep, it’s dubby, and it makes a nice slow burner for warm-up or late night. This 1-sided 12” is definitely a must-have for me. Or I’m a just affected by the fact that it’s so limited? We’ll never know… Out on Natural Midi.

Martin Heyder - Mind-Frames

Forced Sense - FS 020

Martin Heyder is a 32-year old producer from Germany, who hasn’t really caught my attention so far. With this one, he certainly does. „Mind-Frames” is a haunting piece of deep house, most likely to fit into the sets of the Innervisions crew. „Polyphonics” is slightly darker and more on the techno side, however as melodic as the A-side. I can only wonder why I haven’t seen these tracks in any DJ charts yet. I will be watching carefully for Martin’s following releases. Out on Forced Sense.

Roland Appel - Dark Soldier

Sonar Kollektiv - SK 158

This is a sure hit 12“ on Sonar Kollektiv. Both tracks are dramatic as hell (no pun intended). „Changes“ wins this one for me, with its string pads and organ groove. It builds up until around 3:00 and then breaks down to a mental cymbal-ridden groove. You gotta love this on a proper sound system.

Chateau Flight - Body Language vol 5

Posted by Marek on October 23rd, 2007

Get Physical - GPMCD 012 / GPMLP 018

Get Physical’s DJ-mixes keep getting better and better. I barely got over Dixon’s staggering selection on Body Language vol 4. Now the two crazy frog-eaters, Gilb’R and I:Cube (great f***ing names I say…) aka Chateau Flight have launched their own madness of a DJ-mix. I got a chance to catch the guys on Sonar 2007 in Barcelona where they gave a sexy laptop live to a gorgeous stoned-out crowd. One of the hits of their Sonar set is also featured on this mix-CD, namely “Baltringue”. This was in fact introduced on Dixon’s Body Language, mixed/edited by Dixon and Henrik Schwarz. Anyway, it has got to be one of the stand-out tunes for me on this CD as well.

Body Language vol 5 features a lot of Chateau Flight’s own productions, mixed with strange balearic sounds and leftside techno. The 2xLP is a blessing for those idle DJs like me who don’t have enough time to do their own crate-digging (shame on you…). If you’re into the Chateau Flight sound (and being on this page, you probably are), be sure to dig into this one.

This is the CD tracklist for you, with (*) asterisks behind the cuts featured on the 2xLP.
